Week 17 - FYP report submission

 This week is the deadline to submit the final report and the logbook for FYP1. The report is based on the FYP1 template. The report was checked to avoid mistakes before submitting it. The logbook was done by using the Blogger website. After that, the report and the logbook link was sent to the FYP advisor via email.

Week 16 - Report draft submission

 The report draft is to be submitted to the FYP advisor this week. The plagiarism percentage of the report is not to be above 20%. After checking in TurnItIn website, the percentage was only 15%. The report draft is then submitted to sir Izwan to be checked. 

Week 15 - Report writing: Chapter 3

 For this week, I continued the report writing by doing Chapter 3: Methodology of the project. This chapter discusses the methodology of the RFID door lock with an alert system using GSM and the methods that will be applied to prepare this project. This chapter consists of a block diagram, project flowchart, schematic design, cost estimation, and Gantt chart. The flowchart is designed to show the project process flow.

Week 14 - Report writing: Chapter 2

 This week, I started writing Chapter 2: Literature Review of the project report. This chapter discuss the review of the RFID door lock with alert system using GSM, the effects of the project to the society and the existing methods that are related to the project. This chapter also include the background of alarm and door lock system, the reason to improve the current lock system and the main components of the project. The reviewed are from the journals chosen in week 10.

Week 13 - Improvement of project based on FYP defense

During the project defense day, the assessors gave comments to help improve the project. The improvements were made for the project objective. The new objectives are better than the previous objectives as it is more achievable.  The new objectives for the project are:

1. To implement RFID and GSM in a door lock system.
2. To design a door lock system with an alert notification.
3. To develop a software code for a door lock system with RFID and GSM.

Week 12 - FYP project defense presentation

 For the FYP project defense presentation, the students are divided into groups. I was placed in group 6. The assessors are madam Norhaslinawati Bt Ramli and Dr. Zulkhairi B. Mohd Yusof. The presentation was done online via Microsoft Teams. After the presentation, there was a question and answer session. The questions were asked by the assessors based on the project of the students. The assessors also commented on the student's project to help improve the projects.

Week 11 - Slides preparation for FYP defense

 A week before the FYP1 proposal defense day, I prepared the presentation slides based on the research that is done. The slides are based on the rubric given by the FYP coordinators. The slides are a brief summary of the project to be done for FYP2. After finishing the presentation slides, I submitted the slide to my FYP advisor to check if there is any errors or improvements to be made. 

Week 10 - Journal Review

 For this week, I searched for journals that are related to the project. A total of 5 journals were chosen for the literature review in chapter 2. Two of the journals are about-face recognition door lock system written by Ratnawati in 2011 and by Wheeler in 2000. Two journals are about the voice recognition door lock system written by Rashid in 2008 and by Cui in 2009. The final journal is about the fingerprint recognition door lock system written by Dinesh 2014. 

Week 9 - Block diagram and Schematic diagram

 For this week, I designed the block and schematic diagram of my project. The purpose of the block diagram is to show the input, process, and output of the project. The input for the project is the RFID reader. The outputs are the GSM, solenoid door lock, and LCD display. The Arduino Uno is used to control the process. The schematic diagram was designed using Circuit.io. The schematic diagram is designed to show the connections of the components for the project.

Week 8 - Project Cost Estimation

 This week, I decided to estimate the total cost of my FYP project. Since it is CMCO, I did not get the chance to survey the prices at physical shops. So I looked up the prices of each component online. The component's prices are from Shopee since it has all the components I need for my project. The total estimated cost is RM 113. Below is the estimated cost for the RFID door lock with alert system using GSM.   

Week 7 - Project Report Chapter 1

 After searching for data for the problem statement, I started to write the report. The project background and problem statement took 1 day to finish. After that, I started to come up with the project objectives. The objectives must be achievable and related to the project. Below are the objectives:

1. To develop a RFID and GSM based security door lock system for hostel residential.
2. To design a door lock system that sends alert notification to the user.
3. To improve  the current door lock system in the university hostel residence

Then I finished off the rest of chapter 1. I completed the project significance, scopes and limitations and chapter outline. 

Week 6 - Come up with project problem statement

 During this process, I have to think of the problems that are occurring for this project to be developed. The problems are crime rates are high and one of them is house break-in. This is a serious matter as belongings and the household can be stolen and kidnapped by the burglars. I searched for data on the internet to show the data statistic on property crime cases reported in Malaysia as proof for the problem statement. 

Week 5 - Submit FYP project idea

 Week 5 is the deadline to register the project title on the UNIKL BMI FYP website. The project was registered by sir Izwan. The title registered was Development of RFID Door Lock System with Alert System Using GSM. The synopsis of the project is also stated on the website in order to register the title. 

Week 4 - Propose FYP ideas to advisor

  The project proposal was submitted to the advisor. The proposed projects are:

1. RFID Smart Door Lock For Hostel Dorm
2. Auto Cloth Line System
3. Automatic Plant Watering System Using a Moisture Sensor
4. Smart Pidgeon Hole

After a discussion with sir Izwan, we have decided to choose RFID Smart Door Lock For Hostel Dorm as the FYP1 project. This project was chosen because it can be implemented for hostel usage.

Week 3 - List Project Ideas

After doing research, some projects were listed for the proposal to be submitted to the advisor. For each project, the description, main components used, and block diagram were shown. 

Week 2 - Research for FYP project

 I went online to find project ideas for my Final Year Project. The projects were electronic-based. The information was gathered from various websites. The objective of this research is to collect ideas and propose a project for FYP1.

Week 1 - Search for advisor

Each student of Final Year Project 1 requires to search for an advisor for their project. This week I listed a potential advisor for my FYP1. The lecturers are from Electronics section. I proposed sir Izwan Arief Bin Abd Malik to be my advisor for my FYP1. Sir Izwan agreed to be my advisor.
